MOL Sunflower Ferry - Osaka to Shibushi
After the JR Pass price increased, I decided to travel to Kyushu via the overnight ferry from Osaka to Shibushi, which was more cost-effective than taking the train. Though the journey took three times longer, I welcomed the chance for a relaxed and unique experience.
Onboard, the ferry was pleasantly quiet, with few passengers, which made it easy to unwind. I explored the ship, grabbed a snack from the vending machines, and checked out the bathing facilities, including an onsen with water views. My standard single room, accessed via QR code, was spacious enough to stretch out and rest.
One of the highlights was watching the sunrise from the observatory deck. At first it was closed due to strong winds, but once it opened, I could see the horizon light up with soft pinks and oranges—a peaceful moment I won’t forget. Between reading in the lounge and relaxing in my cabin, the overnight trip felt more like a short retreat than simply transportation.
