Mishima Skywalk - Shizuoka, Japan

Mishima Skywalk is a 400-metre-long suspension bridge that offers panoramic views of Mount Fuji on clear days and stretches out over the lush forests of Shizuoka Prefecture, with Suruga Bay visible in the distance. While the bridge itself is the main attraction, Mishima Skywalk also features a variety of additional activities, each requiring a separate fee. Visitors can enjoy forest adventure courses, Segway or ATV tours, guided cycling routes, and a small animal farm.

My primary goal for this visit was simply to walk the suspension bridge and, hopefully, catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji. Unfortunately, the weather was overcast on the day I visited, and the iconic peak remained hidden behind the clouds. The bus drops visitors near the entrance, where tickets are purchased for the bridge. Even without the view, the experience of walking across the bridge is impressive — the structure is stable, though the transparent sections below provide a thrilling sense of height.

Once across, the main activity area features various attractions, cafés, and viewpoints. I stopped at the café for a quick ice cream while enjoying the forest scenery. Because of the season, some of the adventure activities weren’t open, and I didn’t get the full range of experiences available here. While the bridge itself is worth seeing, I felt the entrance fee was quite high for what I experienced, making this more of a quick stop than a full-day outing for me.

Background

Mishima Skywalk (三島スカイウォーク) opened in 2015 as Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, spanning 400 metres across a forested valley. It was designed to offer both local residents and tourists a unique perspective of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the surrounding natural scenery. The bridge is a cantilevered design with transparent panels in parts of the walkway, enhancing the thrill for visitors and providing unobstructed views of the valley below. The area surrounding the bridge was developed as a recreational complex, including adventure courses, guided tours, and seasonal attractions, making it a versatile destination for nature enthusiasts and families.

Getting There

Mishima Skywalk is located in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture. From Mishima Station, the nearest major rail hub served by the JR Tokaido Shinkansen and local JR lines, the Skywalk is accessible via a bus from Mishima Station. The bus ride takes approximately 25 minutes and drops visitors near the entrance. The bridge and activity area are open year-round, though certain attractions may be seasonal.
