Camino Francés Day 27: Villafranca del Bierzo - O Cebreiro
I’d heard that the climb to O Cebreiro is the second toughest after the Pyrenees, so I was mentally prepared. Heavy rain was in the forecast, so I expected to walk with wet shoes.
The first 20 km were relatively flat, passing through quaint towns, with the climb beginning after Las Herrerías. I started with just a rain jacket and pack cover but quickly switched to an umbrella since I was sweating so much.
The trail had streams running down it, and I soon gave up trying to avoid puddles—my shoes were getting soaked anyway. The climb went smoothly, but as I neared the top, strong winds picked up, and I had to put my jacket back on as it got chilly.
I reached the albergue around 1 PM and was the 5th in line! Luckily, my pack stayed dry, and after a warm shower, I could finally change into dry clothes. I was told there is a small convenient shop that I can get some supplies. It took me a while to locate it as it was not obvious. Managed to get some instant noodles and bread for dinner. After I got back to the albergue, I met up with few friends I had made on the way.
