Jogasaki Coast, Shizuoka, Japan
The Jogasaki Coast on the eastern Izu Peninsula is known for its suspension bridges, jagged cliffs, lighthouse, and seasonal flowers. I visited in winter, so there weren’t flowers, but everything else was beautiful.
I took a bus to the trailhead and started the Jogasaki Promenade Picnic Course, hiking north toward Kadowakisaki Lighthouse, the Kadowaki Suspension Bridge, and several scenic cliffside viewpoints. This section was easy to walk, well-paved, and clearly marked — it’s also the most popular part of the Jogasaki Coast trail.
After taking some photos, I walked back and continued south on the Jogasaki Nature Study Course. At the start, there’s a temple with a 1,000-year-old tree. This trail is narrower and less crowded, offering stunning views of rock formations, cliffs, and the coastline.
This stretch felt longer than expected — the trail signs seemed to show point-to-point distances, which made it feel like I was walking forever without making much progress.
Eventually, I reached Tajima Falls after crossing the Hashidate Suspension Bridge, but the water flow was low and not as impressive. From there, I followed the trail to Izu-Kogen Station, where I ended my hike.
