Mount Tomi, Chiba, Japan

I wanted to visit Fusehime Rouketsu and decided to hike up Mt. Tomi (350m) since the trailhead was nearby. I started from the closest station, Iwai Station, about 2.6 km away.

The path first follows the road, leading to Fusehime Rouketsu, where you’ll find steps to a platform with a cave. At the entrance of Fusehime Rouketsua, there is a basic washroom I wouldn’t recommend using. From there, I started the trail up Mt. Tomi, but at the start, the trail looked rough with fallen boulders. A descending hiker assured me it was manageable if I went slowly.

The climb was tough — damaged sections, ropes tied to trees to help cross sections, slippery sandy slopes, and fallen rocks you need to climb over made it challenging. Going up was definitely easier than coming down would’ve been. Eventually, I reached the main trail, where the path improved and it was about 5mins away from the summit.

There wasn’t much of a view at the summit marker, but a nearby viewing platform offered stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and city. The platform is old, so heed the warning signs about capacity.

I descended via the Fukumanji Temple trail, which was much easier, though covered in slippery leaves. I’d highly recommend taking the Fukumanji Temple trailhead instead of the Fusehime Rouketsu route.
