ANA B777-300ER First Class: Tokyo HND - Chicago ORD

One of my goals was to fly first class at least once in my life. I ended up finding and booking a first class flight with points while looking for a different trip, and I was beyond excited when I got the confirmation email. I ended up planning a Japan trip just for this.

On the day of the flight, I arrived early at the airport, went through security and immigration, and headed straight to the ANA Suite Lounge. I’d heard great things and couldn’t wait to check it out. The staff were welcoming, and as I looked for a seat, one of them brought over a drink and waited for me to settle in before handing it to me. I picked a cozy booth-style seat with a small TV and headphones. After setting down my bag, I went to check out the food. The selection was nice, but I didn’t want to eat too much—I was saving room for the in-flight meals.

Boarding was smooth and well-organized. Once I got to my seat, a flight attendant greeted me by name—turns out they knew all the first class passengers by name. The seat was incredibly spacious; even with my legs fully stretched out, I couldn’t reach the TV in front of me. After takeoff, I changed into the provided pyjamas and slippers and reclined my seat.

We hit some heavy turbulence during meal service, so they had to pause halfway through, and I stopped eating for a bit—it was that bumpy. Still, the food and service were absolutely first class. Later, since there were extra seats available, the crew made our beds in the empty ones, so we could switch between seats for sleeping or relaxing.

I honestly never thought I’d get to fly first class, and I’m so glad my first experience was with ANA. Everything was perfect.
