Mount Eboshi, Yamanashi, Japan
Since I’m spending three days in Fujikawaguchiko and plan to hike as much as possible to enjoy the different views of Mt. Fuji, hiking to Panoramadai was a no brainer. The trailhead was about a 50-minute bus ride from Kawaguchiko Station, and I took the first bus of the day.
On the bus, I ran into two German hikers I’d met the day before on the Koyodai hike, and we decided to hike together. When we arrived at the bus stop, the view of Lake Shoji and Mt. Fuji was already stunning. The trailhead was clearly marked, and we started our climb. The first part was a steady incline, so we took it slow until the path leveled out. The autumn colours were still bright and beautiful on this part of the trail.
At Panoramadai, all the elevated spots were taken, but we managed to find a dry place to sit. The name fits—the view of Mt. Fuji is panoramic. We took a break here to enjoy the scenery and have some snacks.
For the way down, we chose a different route from the trail map towards Mt. Eboshi (1257m) before descending. The path was covered in fallen leaves and sometimes hard to see the trail, with a bit of scrambling, but we got down safely. We met a trail runner and honestly it was impressive as the trail was slippery with all the leaves. We reached the bus stop just in time to catch the bus back to town.
